Relabeling Fees
Relabeling fees are applied when cartons arriving at a Pattern warehouse require new Amazon FBA shipment labels before they can move forward to fulfillment centers.
This article explains:
Why relabeling happens
When fees are charged
How to prevent relabeling on future shipments
What Is a Relabeling Fee?
A relabeling fee is charged when Pattern must apply or replace Amazon FBA carton labels so your shipment can be properly received and routed to the correct fulfillment center.
If a carton is missing an FBA label or the barcode cannot be scanned during receiving, the shipment cannot move forward until corrected.
Pattern warehouses use the same scanning technology utilized by Amazon fulfillment centers. This allows us to catch labeling issues early, before cartons are rejected or delayed at Amazon.
Relabeling ensures:
Cartons scan correctly into the shipment
Inventory is matched to the correct FBA shipment ID
Amazon receives compliant, scannable cartons
What Triggers a Relabeling Fee?
Relabeling fees are typically applied for one of the following reasons:
1. Missing FBA Carton Labels
Cartons arrived without an Amazon FBA shipment label
Labels were not applied to all cartons in the shipment
Each carton must have the correct FBA shipment label before it can be processed.
2. Unscannable or Damaged FBA Labels
Barcodes were faded, smudged, or printed at low quality
Labels were torn or wrinkled
Barcodes were wrapped around corners or seams
Labels were partially obstructed by tape or other materials
If a carton label cannot be scanned during receiving, it must be replaced before the shipment can proceed.
Relabeling Fee Details
Relabeling is charged at $1.25 per FBA label applied
Charges are based on the total number of cartons relabeled
The total quantity of labels applied will appear on your invoice
Fees reflect the actual number of cartons that required correction for that week
This provides full visibility into how the total was calculated.
How Relabeling Impacts Your Shipment
Relabeling may:
Delay receiving and processing time
Pause your shipment until corrections are completed
Result in additional handling fees
Because we use Amazon-grade scanners, any issue identified at our warehouse would likely have resulted in a rejection or delay at Amazon as well. Addressing the issue early helps protect your inventory from larger downstream disruptions.
Our goal is always to move inventory through the warehouse as efficiently as possible. Relabeling is only performed when required to ensure compliance and accuracy.
How to Avoid Relabeling Fees
Relabeling fees are preventable with proper FBA carton label application and quality checks before shipping.
Follow these best practices:
Apply an FBA Label to Every Carton
Ensure each carton has its own Amazon FBA shipment label
Do not reuse old labels from previous shipments
Ensure Labels Are Clear and Scannable
Use high-quality printing, preferably thermal
Avoid faded, smudged, or low-ink labels
Place labels on a flat surface of the carton
Do not wrap barcodes around edges or corners
Do not cover labels with tape
Perform a Final Check Before Shipping
Before dispatching inventory:
Confirm carton count matches the FBA shipment
Verify each carton has the correct label
Spot scan labels to ensure readability
A quick quality check before shipping can prevent delays and additional fees.
